Weekend Classes, Armando’s Rhumba, and a new video single

It’s getting cold up here in the Northeast. Soon I’ll be breaking out the humidifiers and resuming my quest for never-ending distilled water. This is my favorite season because it corresponds with the start of a new school year and a fresh season of learning.

This past weekend I taught some fantastic new students as well as some of my favorite current ones. My Fall studio schedule (through November 4) has open Private Lesson times on Saturdays from 10AM EST until the Open Class at 12PM EST. This week’s class will include a deep dive into the oft played but rarely studied Chick Corea classic “Armando’s Rhumba” that features one of the great recorded jazz violin solos by Jean-Luc Ponty.

And stay tuned for a new video single from myself and fellow Snarky Puppy members Bob Lanzetti, and Keita Ogawa dropping on October 20!

The song is “Morro Morocco” written by Keita, who says…

I had a memorable experience performing at the Gnawa Festival in Morocco. People there play music all through the night until morning. When I came back to the US I felt I wanted more Morocco. Moro means “really/very” in Japanese.

It’s a super-grooving song and we cant wait for you to hear it. In the meantime you can pre-order the album here and check out the video from our first single here.
